In February 2008, Google revealed that 25 percent of all the queries made on its search engine each month are unique. This means no one else has used that search term. Studies have also shown that two people will rarely search about a topic using the same exact sequence of words. With this being said, it is important to capture the most traffic possible.
In order to do this, you must target many keyword variations of your products or services. For example, someone who sells loading ramps may think that the only keyword they should rank for is “loading ramps”. But when you go into any keyword search tool you will find that people are typing in variations of that term too. Terms such as:
-
Truck loading ramps
- Portable loading ramps
- Aluminum loading ramps
- Motorcycle loading ramp
- Atv loading ramps
- Loading ramps for sale
- Etc...
Each of these terms has a significant search volume and should be considered viable options for keyword targeting.
In order to get a better understanding of how this could work for you, think about your business by categorizing your offerings, then listing the different ways that people might search for them. You will find that the more you target, the more search engine traffic you will receive.
