Ranking for different variations of your products or services can have huge benefits. However, this is often something that is overlooked when putting together an SEO strategy. A while back, I wrote about the importance of using multiple keywords in your campaign, but we still get questions on how companies can use so many keywords. The answer is keyword variations.

In laymen's terms, a keyword variation is simply a variation of a root keyword. Keyword variation is important because no two people search the Internet the same way. In fact, Google says that 85% of search queries are unique. Keyword variations give your product or service a greater chance of being found through search engines.

So how does this work? It's easy. Once you find your root keywords, keyword variation is simple. For example, a root keyword could be "Room Rentals Buffalo".  But you might also want to be found for Meeting Facility Rentals Buffalo NY,  Meeting Room Rentals Buffalo, Conference Room Rentals Buffalo, or Training Room Rentals Buffalo.

The questions is, how can you effectively use multiple keyword variations in your campaigns? One way is to use the variations within the text of a single page. In this case, Meeting Facility Rentals Buffalo NY and Meeting Room Rentals are similar enough that you can include both keywords in your content for the same page.  But it would be difficult to write about the other keyword variations on the same page because they are vastly different. To solve this problem, you would create different pages for each variation (i.e. Conference Room Rentals and Training room Rentals).

It is important to be careful to when writing your content. Each page should include unique content or the search engines could ding you for duplicate content, resulting in your page being omitted from the search results. So when all is said and done, you will end up with more landing pages than originally planned. This is a good result on many levels, including the fact that it will make your site bigger, giving search engines more to draw from. Bigger sites have a greater chance of being picked up by search engines. It will also create a targeted page for each variation, giving the searcher exactly what they are looking for.

Ultimately, keyword variation is an excellent practice to boost your website traffic and search engine ranking. In the future, be sure to add keyword variation to the mix. Good Luck!
